All Ideas Welcome!
Building a prototype piece of technology was unchartered territory for us. We have been involved in many tech launches or product changes, leading the training project to ensure everyone can use it, but never been involved in the initial thinking.
This was made even more interesting when we weren’t trying to solve a problem. We were doing the complete opposite. We were free to explore ideas to innovate. By relaying, in detail how our industry operates and what part we play in it, we could follow threads of thought that went in all kinds of directions.
And fortunately, it kept coming back to the essence of why we are in business. We believe that everyone loves to learn, but are often left disenchanted by poorly designed, out of context learning that just needs the next button clicking and a multi choice quiz passing.
And so Novella was developed. A tool that creates e-learning courses. Who needs AI for that I hear you shout! Well, we used AI to do a number of things.
Firstly, we used prompt engineering to have AI review a piece of factual text and then create learning outcomes in line with the cognitive learning domain of Bloom’s Taxonomy, focussed solely on knowledge recall. We then engineered the AI to create ways of testing that we had achieved the learning outcomes through testing. We then engineered the AI to break the learning into bite sized chunks so that it could provide the learning in memorable ways.
That was the learning science applied, something I impress on anyone we work with. Learning is a science and when applied correctly saves time and money and does exactly what the learner wants and needs.
